TTT24 Offline Google Maps
===
Meggan: Hey everyone. Welcome back to travel tip Tuesday with the travel mug podcast gals. This week I want to discuss a tip for y'all: downloading offline Google maps. Doesn't sound incredibly exciting. But I think, you know, if you do this and you haven't done it in the past, you'll thank us.
You'll think of us and be like, they knew what they were talking about. most of us, these days when we travel, we use Google maps. So whether it's driving or walking, finding a restaurant in a city that you're in, that you've never been to before. It has endless uses for travel.
Honestly, can't recommend it enough just in general, love Google maps. But one tip in regards to Google maps, like I'm gonna talk about is downloading the maps for offline use. Now, if you are a hundred percent certain that throughout your travels, you'll never be without data or you'll always have access to wifi.
Such as traveling within your own country, which makes sense. This might not be a necessary tip, but if you are leaving your home country and you'll be relying on Google maps for various important things like getting to your next destination you may not always have data. You might not always have access to wifi.
So downloading Google maps offline will save you from panicking about finding directions. You can download that in my home before your trip. In advance of your trip, they therefore should be the most up to date maps if you're doing it right before your trip. Therefore you won't have to worry about finding data.
You'll still have access to the maps and the things you need to find. What I also find helpful is if you know some places you're going in advance, whether it's restaurants or locations, you can star them. Those will still show up in your offline map. So you can have what you need at your fingertips without the, the wonder of like, can I access them?
Cause you never know what kind of situation you can get into. It could be scary if you're lost. So whether that's on foot or driving in a foreign country. So this like small preparation really can save you big time in a few different scenarios. Jenn, is this something you've thought of doing in the past or have you done this before?
Jenn: No. I have never done this, um, ever, however, it would've been very helpful. The other day when we were in bear river, Nova Scotia. Yes. Lovely town. Love it. There. No freaking data cell service. Nothing
Meggan: really?
Jenn: Yes. So I wanted to visit a shop. I couldn't remember where it was. So I couldn't figure out how to get there because I could not use my phone to google it.
Meggan: Mm.
Jenn: So we went into the tourist bureau and ask them, but. If I had just downloaded a Google map before I left, maybe we would've been able to find it a lot easier rather than wandering around bear river. Yeah, I need to, I need to learn how to do this.
Meggan: Yes, there's very easy step by step instructions online. I promise. And it's been, it's really been helpful for us because we have been in situations where we haven't had data. We haven't had wifi and you know, don't get me wrong, it's Peter that downloaded the offline maps. He's the preparer. But they came in super handy. So you never know. So I think it's something you should do regardless, again, unless, you know, you won't need them if you're in your own country or whatever, but you were in your own country.
Jenn: I was, I was an hour and a half from my house. ,
Meggan: that's a really great point because you who knew you wouldn't get data there.
Jenn: I mean, I should have, because I've been there before, but I apparently forgot
Meggan: right, right. So therefore, I mean, so just nix that, I guess, no matter where you go download an offline map up there,
Jenn: you're heading to the middle of nowhere. Download your offline map.
Meggan: It will help you out. Well, That is it for us this week on travel tip Tuesday, we hope you find this useful for your next adventure near or far, apparently doesn't matter.
