Should You Travel With Your Wedding Rings?

Jenn: [00:00:00] welcome back to Travel Tip Tuesday with the Travel Mug Podcast. So Meggan, I just got home from a very fun week exploring Copenhagen. Uh, but one of the things I asked myself while I was packing, you know, like the day that I was leaving,

Meggan: Yes, I'm aware

Jenn: was whether or not I should, bring my wedding rings with me.

So I ultimately did decide to wear them for this trip, but I thought about how this might change depending on where I go in the future. So I thought about some reasons why you might actually decide to leave your wedding rings at home, and one is you're scared of losing them, which is mostly my worry. I actually don't wear my w- wedding rings at home often. I usually like take them off, and then I was worried that while I was traveling, I might like take them off and put them down somewhere and lose them. , So there's that. Another reason is [00:01:00] safety, of course. So like a big fancy ring could make you a target for pickpockets and, uh, thieves, you know, 'cause it could signal that you have, uh, expensive things.

Another reason to not wear, wear or bring your wedding rings is, uh, or any, like, sentimental jewelry, I guess. Doesn't have to necessarily be wedding rings, is damage. So if you're like going to the beach for a week or you're in pools and sand and sunscreen can all damage, uh, rings. So might be better to leave them at home in that case.

And another one is you're like going on like a super active vacation, like hiking, swimming, other physical activities, especially if, uh, you're someone whose fingers swell, when you're working out. You might wanna leave them home. I think this is all like personal preference, and you can always purchase a cheaper ring to wear on vacations or wear like a silicone band.

You know, less expensive, don't have the same [00:02:00] sentimental meaning if something happens to them. And also important to make sure that your rings are insured against theft. A lot of home insurance policies cover this, but just check and make sure. So Meggan, have you ever left your rings at home, or have you ever considered leaving your rings at home when you travel?

Meggan: Yeah, I have left them home. Um, I do have silicone ones I wear, uh, a lot down south. I probably have worn them on some European trips. Sometimes I just forget. I literally didn't think about it when we went to Portugal. But I do often wear silicone rings . And Peter only has a silicone ring 'cause he's left-handed and he doesn't love wearing rings, and it bangs into everything if it's metal.

Jenn: Mm-hmm.

Meggan: he's always had a silicone ring. And then, yeah, so most of the time I do. I forgot in Portugal, but I do have ones that I do leave home

Jenn: Yeah. No, it's funny 'cause, uh, my husband wears a silicone ring. But he actually forgot his, so he didn't wear a ring at all , which all good.
