Jenn: Hey everyone. Welcome back to Travel Tip Tuesday. We all love to save a little bit of money, right Meggan?
Meggan: Yeah. And this economy especially, we're into saving cash.
Jenn: We are. So this week I'm kind of expanding on something that I mentioned in our Beginner's Guide to Miami episode, which is using Groupon to save on tours. So I feel like Groupon was like all the rage like 10 to 15 years ago.
Meggan: It was, you couldn't go anywhere without people saying, do you have a Groupon
Jenn: Right. And I don't hear a lot about it anymore, but it's still active and you can find some hidden gems on there. Although I was on there recently and you do have to do a bit of digging, like there's a lot of crap, but there are some good stuff. For example, I was just looking at Orlando 'cause we're headed there in a few weeks and there's discounts on a lot of stuff from like pirate themed dinner theaters to like mini golf. Boat tours, salsa dancing lessons, glass blowing classes, like there was all kinds of stuff and thought that that was really cool. there's also a few websites that, offer, pay what you please, so they're not free, but kind of pay by donation, if you will. Um, different walking tours. So a couple that I saw are Walk Guru and free tour.com. These seem really popular in Europe mostly. And then another way to save a bit of money is to check if a museum that you wanna visit has a free or a pay what you wish day or a discount day. So a lot of museums in New York City, for example, have these options. And I actually learned, Meggan, that there were several free museums in Halifax that I. I was like, oh. So, um, Dalhousie Art Gallery, St. Mary's University Art Gallery. I take this to mean that many universities around the world probably have free art galleries that
Meggan: Yeah, probably.
Jenn: people not visiting. then also the Emera Oval here in Halifax provides free public skating, including free equipment rentals. So that's amazing. So when you start digging, you can really find free and low cost options probably anywhere. If we could find it in Halifax you could find it anywhere.
Meggan: Yes. Yes, I agree.
Jenn: So Meggan, is I, I don't think you've done this before, but would you use Groupon in the future? Have you looked for like free walking tours or am I just blowing your mind right now?
Meggan: I'm not, I'm not above saving the cash. I'm, I'm in the same economy as everybody else. I'm definitely into it, so I haven't like, I haven't seriously thought about it though, like this is, this is why we do the travel tip Tuesday. Sometimes you and I learn right along with everybody else, and of course I used Groupon years ago, but like you mentioned it, it was what, I don't know if things were viral then, but it was, it was a big thing for a while.
but of course with upcoming trips this year, including maybe a long weekend in New York, I will definitely, um, be taking a look because if you're going to do it anyway, why not take a quick glance, as we say, do a little research just to see, and if it can save you money, why wouldn't you? So maybe not, but going forward yeah.
Jenn: let us know if you've ever done this. if you've used Groupon, if you've done a pay what you wish and actually named your own price, let us know.
