Meggan: Hey everyone, and welcome back to another edition of Travel Tip Tuesday with your hosts, us Meggan, and Jenn,
Jenn: I'm Jenn
Meggan: um, who -your Jenn. I mean, who else would, who else would we be?
Jenn: I dunno
Meggan: so I have to give credit for this week's tip, Peter, my husband, as we all know, because he is the one who found this like genius feature and I just had to share it. So, first and foremost, for this tip you're gonna need to download the Wikipedia app on your phone. If you don't have it, go ahead. We'll wait.
All right. I'm sure you've got it by now.
Jenn: Yeah.
Meggan: Okay. So now that you have the app, what you need to do is open it up. At the bottom you will see beside the explore icon. There's one that says places. So if you click that, you will then need to give Wikipedia, of course, if you're comfortable, permission to use your location, cuz this is the whole purpose of places. So if you don't wanna do it, you won't be able. If you don't wanna give them permission, you won't be able to use it. Just keep that in mind. I suggest really selecting only when using the app so that they're not constantly tracking you, if that will help you feel better. That's what I do. All right, so now that you've done all that, you're set.
So if you go into the app, Wherever you are right now. So even if you're just in your home, hit places, and what Wikipedia does, it actually gives you spots to click on of interest in the area that you're in. So unlike Google Maps, which I am in no way dissing because we all know that I love Google Maps a lot Um, but here you can actually get articles of places of interest. So essentially it allows you to do a deeper dive on like historical spots, places of interest, things you can discover in the area, and then read an actual Wikipedia article about. So let's say there's a castle nearby. Wherever you are, you click the castle, it actually takes you to an article where you can read all about the castle.
So where Google Maps gives you like reviews maybe, or the location of things. This actually allows you to do some research on what's in the area via these articles. And I think it's a really great way to discover things you might not have known about as well in the area. So, and this feature may not be, you know, news to some people, but it definitely was to me.
And honestly I can't wait to try it out somewhere new because, It now makes me think like, who knows what we could discover? Did Jenn, did you know about this feature?
Jenn: I literally downloaded the app while you were talking
Meggan: as instructed. You're such a good pupil. I love that.
Jenn: Thank you. Thank you. Yeah, I had no idea this existed and it is very interesting. And I literally, cuz of course I live in the Liverpool area. I live in Milton. So I clicked on Milton and discovered that it's known for being the birthplace of international bestselling author Margaret Marshall Saunders, who I've never heard of. But here we are. I feel like I'm gonna have to go read her book called Beautiful Joe.
Meggan: There you go. Look, it's a learning circle moment.
Jenn: I know. And it was published in 1994, so like in my lifetime, . I dunno why. I don't know about it. ,
Meggan: I dunno. See people, look what she's already discovered. This is the best tip ever. Best travel Tip Tuesday ever.
Jenn: God. Yeah. I dunno. Maybe. Yeah. Everybody should go download that cuz that's really,
Meggan: I know. It's cool. And I, again, I can't take credit, but as soon as like he told me about it, I'm like, Why wouldn't you go somewhere even like you in at home and like click on it? You just don't know. So anyway, that really is it. But I thought it was really neat. Wanted to share. So that's this week's travel tip Tuesday.
Jenn: Mm-hmm. .
