Why Book a Hotel For Your Arrival Morning
If you are anything like us, you cannot sleep sitting up! A plane or a bus is not where you find comfort and the ability to have a good sleep.
This can be particularly tough when taking an overnight flight to a new location where all you want to do is sleep, but also see all the things on your first day.

Book an extra night

Meggan: [00:00:00] Hey everyone, and welcome back to Travel Tip Tuesday. We are happy you are here. How are you today, Jenn?
Jenn: I am doing well.
Meggan: Wonderful. So today I wanted to talk about a random idea that I have now. , Read a few places about this when
Jenn: Mm.
Meggan: some travel research, but I have not personally done it myself, and it is not complicated at all. I'm not sure about you, but I cannot sleep on an overnight flight. Yes. No,
Jenn: No. No, never have. Yeah.
Meggan: Never have, never will. Um, it has gotten a bit better with my new neck pillow and I'm able to, what I would say, doze on the flight, but I simply can't get a meaningful sleep. And neither can Peter, we're always landing very tired. So the idea I came across, if it is in your budget, is to book your first night, hotel for the night you actually depart from your home country. This seems like a mistake [00:01:00] I could easily make, but this is actually what I'm suggesting to do. So essentially you do your red eye, you land in your destination, and you're exhausted, but you have to wait until two or three or 4:00 PM to check in. But if you book your first hotel night for the previous night, you inform the hotel or whatever accommodation you've booked, that you won't be arriving until early morning on the day of landing, and then you immediately have somewhere to go and sleep. So I do realize this would be an extra night to pay for accommodation, but if you are able to, it can really help you get a jumpstart on getting rested for the remainder of your trip. And even if you aren't someone who sleeps during the day on your first day of arrival. You know how good it feels to like go in, drop your bags off, get refreshed. It just feels amazing. So it can be a way to help beat the jet lag, [00:02:00] but I do feel the key, of course, with this is to inform your lodging that you won't be there at night, but instead in the morning so that you aren't charged a no-show fee.
Jenn: Mm-hmm.
Meggan: So, Jenn, have you ever done this or thought about doing it? And if not, is it something you would do?
Jenn: Yeah, I haven't done this before. I think it is a good idea, but, uh, definitely alerting the hotel so they don't cancel the rest of your stay. 'cause that would be a nightmare. I would be curious to learn if any hotels have like a policy against this for some reason. I don't know if they would just kind of like came to my mind when you were talking about it.
Yeah, I think I would definitely consider it for trips where we land in the early morning. 'cause yeah, like you said, it is nice, even if you're just dropping your bags off and washing your face and changing your clothes, that is worth it to me.
Meggan: no, I agree. And I have a feeling the hotel will take your money.
Jenn: I mean, probably. Yeah.[00:03:00]
Meggan: Prob. I mean, one never knows. There are weird rules out there, but I have a feeling they'll take your cash.
Jenn: Hmm.
Meggan: Well, that is just it. A quick idea, something that's not complicated, but can really help you get off on the right foot after you have not slept for an entire night. Mm.
